ABOUT KAYAK MADAGASCAR

Our kayaking safaris are designed to give the paddlers an all round island experience for the entire family.

Introduction

We combine paddling across the calm waters around Nosy Be, Komba island and Mainland Madagascar to open ocean paddling around Iranja island and mainland Madagascar as well as visits to local villages, cocoa and ylang ylang plantations and a marine reserve.

Our kayaking safaris are suitable for all levels of paddlers as well as non paddlers. A support boat follows the group with your luggage and a cold box with refreshments. A group can be made up of paddlers and non paddlers. Any non paddlers can simply ride along in the support boat or if your level of fitness is not that great then no problem, climb into the support boat or the support boat will tow your kayak until you are ready to paddle again.

ENJOY THE ENVIRONMENT

We tend to lean our safaris more towards a casual type of paddling so this is not a race. Enjoy nature and the environment around you.
For those who wish to challenge each other then, by all means go ahead. For those who are wanting to experience the kayaking safari but don’t want to paddle at all, the entire route can be done with the support boat.

OUR TEAM

Our experienced and dynamic team is there to meet you.

Bert

Skipper Director

Bert is a South African born and raised on the “Wild Coast” of the former old Transkei homeland.

Bert’s passion for sailing from an early age took him across several oceans and after years at sea landed back on his home shore. Wanting to continue a career in the marine industry he wrote his yacht master off shore certificate in Durban and skippered yachts up into the Indian Ocean and the Mozambique channel.

In 2004 he once again landed on the shores of Nosy Be and once again fell in love with the tropical tranquillity of the place. He decided that this is where he wanted to get involved in the charter yacht industry.

Based in Nosy Be over the next decade Bert skippered mostly catamaran charter yachts. During his years at being at the helm of charter boats he often pondered about the possibility of running sea kayaking safaris.

In 2016 Bert opened the first sea kayaking company in Nosy Be. Bert bough a piece of land on a tropical island close to Nosy Be and has built a house which serves as his kayak base and office.

With Bert’s extensive marine and environment knowledge of the area he has opened two kayaking routes which gives his clients a good all round experience of the best the area has to offer.

Ramaro

Guide assistant

Ramaro comes from a farming community roughly 100km south of the capital Antananarivo.

Ramaro’s brother in law who was a nature guide at one of the big hotels on the island brought him to the coast to assist with developing gardens on a new development. When the project was complete the project manager who Bert had met asked Bert if he didn’t want to employ Ramaro because he was an excellent worker. Bert who had just started levelling his land in preparation to build his house and base camp agreed.

Ramaro proved himself on the building site and showed a great interest for the ocean and soon learning to swim, snorkel, fish, kayak and how to operate the outboard motor on the support pirogue.

When Bert needed an assistant for his kayak safaris Ramaro was the automatic choice. Ramaro is a good energetic and enthusiastic all rounder who is willing to assist in any circumstance. Bert and Ramaro make up a perfect sea kayaking safari team.
